DAY 79 - 07/05/2010 - Daly Waters, NT & Mataranka, NT

Poor Waz is still not 100% well but feels well enough to drive us onto our next destination, Mataranka.

Before we leave Daly Waters, the owner of the pub, Robyne gave us all singlets with the pubs logo to apologize for last nights raw chicken fiasco.

Lilly proud as punch in her new trucky singlet.

We donate one of Warren's double pluggers to the thong beer garden.

We sadly leave Daly Waters but hope to return another day.

We arrive at Mataranka Homestead in time for a late lunch. We had to pop back out to get some supplies for lunch from the small general store. Mataranka is only very small. Theres a general store here, a couple of other shops, a post office/centrelink office and a small art gallery. As usual there are Aboriginal locals squatting out front of these shops but they give us no hassle.

After lunch we head down to the thermal pools which is only a very short walk from our campsite. These pools are very beautiful and warm. It feels like you are getting into a hot bath. This town is popular for its natural thermal pools.

Warren had seemed to be feeling better during the day but come night, went bad again.

Tonight I came across a large snake in the womens toilet block. I went off to the toilet to brush my teeth and there were these mens voices coming from the female end of the toilet block. When I walked in I found about 10 blokes in there. The one in front had a baseball bat in strike mode and the rest were all cowering behind him. At first I didn't know what to think but they quickly explained that a huge snake was around the toilet. I froze with fear. The snake starting slithering around and stretched itself across 3 toilets. At first I thought it was a brown snake. The men were all scottish and have no idea how dangerouse brown snakes are. When I told them how deadly they are, some freaked and others pulled out their mobile phones for a quick snap shot. We waited for a staff member to come to the rescue. As it turns out it was an Olive Python and often confused with a brown snake. Not lethal but can bite. Oops, my bad.
