DAY 135 - 02/07/2010 - De Grey River Rest Area, WA & Port Hedland, WA

We arrive in Port Hedland this morning. Its a very industrial mining town. Home to Rio Tinto and BHP Billotin. Mining spec cars and people in orange shirts everywhere. We feel like we have driven onto a building site.

Houses here are very ordinary looking but sell close to or more than a million dollars. A plain 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house can fetch over a $1000 per week rent. There is a lot of money here. I wouldn't mind a piece of the pie but don't think I could live here.

We bumped into our travel buddies, Chris and Rod. They are stranded here in Port Hedland due to major car issues and are in the process of getting that sorted. The girls were happy to see Josh, Caleb and Wilson.

We managed to get a site right next to Chris and Rod at the Port Hedland Tourist Park. Looking forward to catching up with them.

The surroundings here are pretty bleak but it's better than nothing because everywhere else is booked out or double the price.

Thats our site

and the views from the bottom of our street ...........
