DAY 165 - 01/08/2010 - Shark Bay, WA & Murchinson River, WA

After an egg and bacon breakky we leave Whale Bone. We were approaching the T intersection when we caught glimpse of Rod and Chris's caravan. They didn't see us at first but we beeped our horn and got their attention. We had pre-planned meeting up with them sometime this afternoon at Murchinson River but now we will be travelling there together.

Before leaving Shark Bay there are a couple of places both of us havn't seen yet and wanted to see. They are Shell Beach and the Stromatolites which are both located in the direction we were travelling.

First stop, Shell Beach. The water here is a pale baby blue and the beach is entirely made of crushed shells. Its very pretty and I get some lovely photos here.

Shell Beach

The ancient Stromatolites are interesting. They are only found in 2 places in the world. They are ancient living organism fossils and are proof of the oldest living creatures. The girls seem more enthralled with the wooden viewing jetty they get to walk along than the Stromatolites themselves.

Stromatolites

Done with siteseeing, we head to Murchinson River for our free stay which is 168km away and only stopping once at the roadhouse for lunch and loo break.

Murchinson River was an excellent spot. We parked along the river and the kids collected enough wood for a decent fire. We had a feast of fish, calamari, french fries and pasta for dinner.

The Classroom

Tonight us adults sat around the fire until late in the night while the kids watched movies in the van.
