DAY 237 - 11/10/2010 - Streaky Bay, SA & Port Lincoln, SA

As we drive along we come across fields of wild flowers.

We left beautiful Streaky Bay this morning and drove south and around the point to Port Lincoln. The caravan park we checked into is right on the water and it has its own jetty. We are informed that squid is a popular catch off this jetty.

We quickly set up and then headed into town. We firstly drove over to the marina and it is choc full of trawlers. Next stop Repco to get brake pads for the Pajero and then the camping and fishing shop to buy some squid jigs.

There are a group of kids jumping off the towns main jetty into the water. Its pretty hot today. The temps reached mid 30's. Apparently this is unusually hot weather for October here. Mid 20's is the norm around this time. We don't care and welcome the heat.

Last stop Woolys for groceries then back home to camp.

Lilly and I get dinner organised while Waz and the girls go squidding off the jetty.

Taylah is the only one who manages to catch a squid but the girls are keen to try their hand at squidding again tomorrow. They had lots of fun.

DAY 236 - 10/10/2010 - Streaky Bay, SA

The girls spend all morning doing school work then off to the local jetty to throw in a line.

The fish bite immediately and latch onto our lines but they are too small to keep.

Here on the jetty we meet a local called Terry, a veteran fisherman on these waters. He identifies all our catches and tells us if they are ok to keep or not.

One of the many fish we caught and threw back

He is fishing beside us and his luck is better than ours. Terry catches a huge salmon and gives it to us for tonights dinner. In return we gift him with beers from our esky which he wouldn't accept at first but eventually does but only a couple.

It was a fun day for all.

All the local kids are jumping off the jetty into the water until one spots a seal. Seals spells shark in these waters. Although, this does not stop them for long and they are back in the water. This time they have swam over to a boat moored in the water and are now jumping from it.

By the late afternoon we have had enough of fishing because they have stopped biting and the tide has changed. We drop the rods off back at the van park and then we go for a drive to check out Cape Baur.

Its a beautiful coastline and we enjoy various lookouts along the tourist route.

Cape Baur

Back at the van we cook up todays catch of salmon and herrings and they are so good to eat. Very delicious.

We are all exhausted after being out in the sun all day and are looking forward to an early bedtime.

DAY 235 - 09/10/2010 - Perlubie Beach, SA & Streaky Bay, SA

One year ago today Warren's mum left this world to join her Dad in another. Very often I feel her presence around us. Warren is sad today, he hasn't told me but I can see it in his eyes. I don't know what to say or do but life goes on as normal and I know she would be so proud of him and his achievements. RIP Kerry...you are in our thoughts more often than not.

We are staying at the Foreshore Caravan Park in Streaky Bay on the Eyre Peninsula. We are one row back from the waterfront. I have lots of clothes washing to do which I tend to while the girls play on the beach and the playground throughout the day.

Streaky Bay SA

Our highlight today is the showers. We havn't showered in days and they are awesome.

We have decided to stay one more night and take the girls fishing tomorrow. Its a nice little spot here and the weather forecast for tomorrow is a promising 27 degrees and we are big Kev excited.

Tonight we enjoy a couple of drinks and a bbq dinner. We hear music across the water.....probably from the pub in town. There is a bonfire on the beach out front and there are people sitting around it. Tonight is not as cold as last night.

DAY 234 - 08/10/2010 - Head of Bight, SA - Nullarbor Crossing ends - Perlubie Beach, SA

We are now into day 4 of our Nullarbor adventure crossing and looking forward to showers.

We took our time getting organised this morning. Waz and I enjoyed cuppa's on our chairs outside and took in the scenery for the last time.

We topped up on fuel at the Nullarbor Roadhouse and our next scenic stop is the Head of Bight.

We pay our entry fee and walk down to the viewing platform. There is a mummy whale and her calf frolicking in the water and we watch them for a while.

Then we check out all viewing points of the Bight. I think the views at the various lookouts we saw yesterday, especially the one that was closed were just as good as the view from here.

Its a fight at the bight

We stop at Penong, the home of the 100 windmills, for a bacon and egg lunch. The girls enjoy a play in the nearby playground.

Its almost sunset by the time we finally set up camp at Perlubie Beach. Its a free stay and it was a little difficult to find. It was listed in the Camps 5 book but the directions didn't make sense. A kind local gave us directions and he informed us that we weren't the only ones having trouble finding the place today.

There are 3 other caravans already set up when we arrive. There are toilets but no showers as the book suggests but its really nice here and we are happy to stay and put off showers for one more night.

There is an old playground right on the beach that the girls play on while we watch the sunset.

DAY 232 - 07/10/2010 - Nullarbor Crossing - Head of Bight, SA

Day 3 of our Nullarbor adventures.

The Old Telegraph Station ruins are in Eucla. We drive up to it as far as possible and then we climb some sand dunes to get to it. Sometimes its all buried under the sand but that was not the case today and we can walk thru it.

I would like to say that Lilly was doing sand fairys but no she was having a tanty. Doesn't want to get back into the car. Hahahahahah

We cross over the border into SA and shortly the Bunda Cliffs will start to appear along the coastline.

So close but yet so far away.

There are lots of scenic lookouts along the way. The cliffs were an amazing sight. Breathtaking. Its a 100m drop into the ocean and there are no fences to protect sight seeers.

Our first views of water.

We ignore this sign and proceed on and snapped the following photographs.

We get as far as the Head of Bight and its quite late in the afternoon. We intend to see this tomorrow as there is an entry fee and we fear that it will close shortly.

We set up camp close by at a rest area called the 157k Peg. There are no toilets or bbq's here but its such a pretty spot and we position ourselves behind some trees to protect us from the weather.

Tonight we have a hungi style bbq. Tomorrow we will be going thru quaranteen and we need to eat all our fresh fruit and vegies otherwise they will be confiscated.

Waz builds a campfire and we foil wrap all our vegies and throw them into the hot coals to cook. I've got spuds, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, carrots and even mushies and cabbage cooking in the coals.

Our hungi was a success and everything tasted so good. We toast this great dinner with some Margaret River wine.

The girls are in bed, an owl hoots in the distance, our bellies are full with great food and great wine and we are sitting next to the camp fire watching the last bits of wood burn. "Hows the serenity".

The wind has changed direction and is blowing thru our camp site. We put the fire out and retreat to bed.

Goodnight Nullarbor.....
