We left Coffs Harbour and drove along the Pacific Highway as far south as Wauchope then we turned off and travelled inland towards west of NSW.
We stopped off in Cottan-Bimbang National Park for lunch. It was very peaceful here. All you could hear is the birds chirping and the occassional car or motorbike zoom by.
We then continued along the neverending Oxley Highway till we reached Tamworth and then Lake Keepit. The first few hours of the Oxley Highway were very scenic but then closer to Tamworth the scenery got a little monotonous and boring. We had been driving for hours and the girls were starting to get restless.
Lake Keepit is 35 min NW of Tamworth. Cheap campsites here. Only planning on staying here for 1 night. The lake is a huge dam in the middle of nowhere and there are lots of cows grazing along it. There weren't many other campers here which made it both peaceful and a little eeiry.
I had the worst bindy experience ever. I had no strainer to drain boiling water from a pot of pasta but I did have the lid that I could use to strain the water. The sink was full of dishwater so I proceeded to do this outside. I walked out onto the grass with bare feet. One hand holding pot handle and the other holding lid on a slant. I started draining the water slowly. Suddenly, I lost my balance and stepped back onto the biggest bindy patch ever. And these were not ordinary bindys, they were individual crown of thorns. A most painfull experience, one hard to forget. So I stepped back onto the bindy patch, pot goes flying and I end up losing half of my dinner on the grass. Lucky I had already served the others. I call out to Waz but he does not hear my cries. The feet ached for ages. Mental note, buy strainer.
